THE PEOPLE BEHIND EDGES OF GLORY
YOU KNOW THEIR
ALY LEIA WEIN
Alexandra "Aly" Leia Wein has loved figure skating ever since she saw the movie Ice Princess when she was five years old, and it's been in her life ever since! Her elementary school library only had two books on figure skating - Michelle Kwan's autobiography and an illustrated how-to guide on jumps and spins - so Aly used to check them out again and again and sleep with them under her pillow. With a background in the visual and performing arts, Aly devoted her childhood to musical theatre, dance, painting, drawing, and writing... and so it was no surprise she fell in love with ice dance! It wasn't until many years later that she combined her passions for skating, writing, and storytelling, and decided to launch Edges of Glory in order to give a more in-depth look at the extraordinary humans behind the glitz, glamour, and gold of figure skating.
Aly grew up as a theatre kid in the Los Angeles suburbs, honing her craft both onstage and backstage for community, regional, and professional theatre companies alike. With stints in PR, marketing, social media management, and advertising, she dipped her toes in all aspects of creative business, and after a gap year of traveling the country (for figure skating), she is currently pursuing her BA in Digital Journalism and Media at Penn State University's World Campus. When she's not up at 3 AM covering international skating events or watching the ISU's Tea-Time Foxtrot seminar for fun, Aly is a Disneyland Annual Passholder and enjoys documentaries on everything from Navy SEALs to Mount Everest. She is so excited for the future of Edges of Glory! Additionally, she trains at Iceoplex Simi Valley and hopes to coach someday, but for now, she eats, sleeps, and breathes skating journalism and all that entails.
